Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Post Operation: What to do and How is it?
After your lasik laser eye surgery operation, what you need to do is to get plenty of rest. Rest your eyes and sleep. Since the cut made for the flap on your cornea needs to heal on its own, it will greatly help if you sleep because healing becomes faster while you are sleeping. Don’t drive on your way home from the eye clinic. Have someone drive you back home.
When you get out of the clinic, the doctor will you protective shield for your eyes. Use that when you’re going to sleep and during the first day after your surgery to prevent you from rubbing your eyes and to protect your eyes from dirt.
You will be given 2 kinds of drops for your operative eyes and artificial tears. For the two drops, you will have to apply them several times usually 4 times every day for the first 5 days after your operation. In between the 2 drops, you will also need to apply artificial tears to treat dry eyes. Artificial tears can be applied as often as you want so long as you wait for 5 minutes after applying the other drops so that the drops will not be washed off.

Your doctor will advise you to take care of your eyes. Make sure that your eyes will not get wet or soaked with soap. Your operative eye should also be always clean so that you will avoid rubbing them. Rubbing your eyes is one of the most dangerous thing that you can do after your lasik laser eye surgery. Don’t go swimming during the first month and don’t use the bath tub too.
During the first few months, you will experience normal and temporary eye problems such as sensitivity to light and glare specially at night. Your eye doctor will tell you how to go about with these. After a few months, these side effects will automatically go away.
You will need to do follow-up visits to your eye surgeon a few times during the first year after your operation. The visits will be the next day of the operation, after the first month, after the 3rd month, after the 6th month and after a year.
Make sure that you follow your eye doctor’s instructions so that you will not have any complications or infections.
