Why Wear Contacts after Lasik Procedure?
For people who are considering getting Lasik laser surgery, one of the first things they would like to know is what happens after Lasik procedures. People normally ask this question so they can know what to expect after a procedure and if they will need further help. Usually, one way they can be notified of this is to consult with an optometrist. But there are some people who are too shy to see a doctor and search the internet instead.
Commonly, they will find that there are some people who will need to wear contact lenses after the surgery. As a result, they tend to question why they will need to pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars on surgery that will still require them to wear their contact lenses. Without waiting around for the answer, there are some people who will not proceed with their decision of getting surgery anymore. At the same time, there are also those who wish to be informed of this unfortunate event.
The way Lasik and the other laser vision procedures work is by reshaping the front surface of the eye. It does so by removing the microscopic amounts of tissue that can be found in the cornea. Rarely, this may cause some irregularities on the shape of the cornea. As a result, people who experience this will have a lesser distinct quality on their vision as compared to before they got the surgery. Mostly though, such irregularities can be rectified with a follow up procedure known as an enhancement.
However, if the cornea is considered too thin for the second surgery, an enhancement procedure is not recommended. Aside from this, it can also be caused to other problems that the optometrist will diagnose. Instead of the procedure, the best solution can be found in wearing GP or hybrid contact lenses. Conventional eyeglasses are not applicable for these problems that arise after Lasik procedures. This is why a visit to a doctor is still the best first step.
